Synopsis:

When an architect and a choreographer ask each other: "What is Space?"

Upside Down questions the embodiment of architectural space, with a particular outlook towards proxemic studies and the anthropologic relation between space perception and cultural background.
The piece involves artists from Italy, Greece, India and Lithuania, who have worked collaboratively for six months from different parts of the world.

The title Upside Down (referring to the asymmetric shape of the human body with respect to a horizontal plane) manifests the intention of reinventing recognizable architectural archetypes into a transitory landscape of unfamiliar objects to be kinaesthetically tested. Upside Down also suggests the purpose to subvert the supremacy of the eye over the other senses, aiming to access a synaesthetic appreciation of space.

Upside Down includes a live dance piece followed by a participatory art installation. The whole performance is characterised by the presence onstage of one hundred and thirty-five modular, giant Lego style bricks, that are continuously moved across the stage and re-assembled in bigger constructions, in order to create a landscape of fragmented architectural archetypes and sparse units. The performers and later the audience, are invited to playfully engage with both the bricks and the people cohabiting the space.

Within the art installation, the film Concrete bones and Metal joints (2018) is also projected.
