Synopsis:
In-material is a performative and participatory installation aiming to reveal the relation of interdependency between the Creator and the Creature, and to re-question the act of creation as a reciprocal exchange between the two. It also offers an opportunity to appreciate the natural expressiveness of the materials, wondering how far imagination can go without denying the concreteness of reality.

The installation involves one performer and 12 cardboard boxes containing the tools and the materials which the audience is invited to use to transform the performer’s body in their own artwork.

Each box has an instruction (such as “shape me” or “size me”) and contains a thoughtful aphorism about the selected material (such as paint, clay or fabric).

This performance encourages the audience to be curious and open minded, looking at Visual and Performing Arts with fresh eyes, as the two faces of the same coin.

Anyone can take part, from those ones who prefer to “just watch” from somewhere far, to those who want to peek inside each box and leave, to those who just want to get dirty with paint and clay.

In-Material is a durational and immersive piece, open to groups of vary size and free to be experienced at different levels of participation. Anyone who interacts with the living artwork, helps granting continuity to the performance and emphasising the idea of Community-Art, that is collectively shaping one only artwork as the result of a collective, never ending process.
